ExaWizards Starts Collaboration with Deloitte Tohmatsu on Demonstration Project in the field of Smart Cities
Offering Support Services from Planning of Smart City Concept to Development and Implementation of AI
ExaWizards Inc., a company that develops AI-enabled services to solve social issues (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Ko Ishiyama; hereinafter, “ExaWizards”) and Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Masato Sase; hereinafter, “DTC”) will collaborate on the demonstration project in the field of smart cities to start providing support services to local governments and related companies.
☑︎ Supporting the local governments and related companies in their initiatives for smart cities amid the growing need for DX in cities during the COVID-19 pandemic
Projects of “smart cities” for urban development that improve the quality of living infrastructure and services by using cutting-edge technologies such as IoT and AI are underway in various cities in Japan and overseas. The challenge is how to digitally transform the entire city in response to the drastically changing social environment triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need for new cities that utilize cutting-edge technology is increasing more than ever.
In addition, with the “Super City” concept in the Cabinet Office’s National Strategic Special Zone and the “Smart City Public-Private Partnership Platform” participated by companies, universities and research institutes, local public organizations, and related ministries launched in Japan, the need for public-private partnerships toward establishment of smart cities is also drawing attention.
Against this background, ExaWizards, which has extensive experience in development and social implementation of the AI technologies in the smart city field, and DTC, which also has extensive experience in concept formulation and demonstration in the smart city field, will collaborate to provide support services to local governments and related companies in their engagement in the smart city initiatives.
ExaWizards has been engaged in various AI implementation projects in the local governments, including participation in “Super City Open Lab” in the Cabinet Office’s National Strategic Special Zone, “Next-generation prevention/health promotion project using gait analysis AI,” which was adopted in the “Be Smart KOBE” project in Kobe City, the project to develop “AI to predict the level of care needed” adopted by “Kanagawa ME-BYO Living Lab” in Kanagawa Prefecture, and the demonstration projects in Hamamatsu City and Miyazaki City. In this collaboration, ExaWizards and DTC will pursue the smart city initiatives by supporting the introduction of AI, from service concept design, AI development to service demonstration and practical application in the respective local governments, where we can take advantage of our expertise in social implementation of AI.
The Deloitte Tohmatsu Group has provided support to a number of companies, local governments, and related ministries and agencies that are trying to realize smart cities. Initiatives for smart cities require knowledge in a wide range of fields such as mobility, environment/energy, economy, administration/education, life/healthcare, and safety/security, and it is essential to include all the factors of people, goods, and money in the grand design to promote smart cities. The Deloitte Tohmatsu Group has systematized the methodologies for that purpose as “four ties,”* and provides support for strategy/concept formulation and demonstration based on such methodologies, including the following cases:
・ Smart mobility: (Project commissioned by Tokyo Metropolitan Government) Project to support social implementation of MaaS – selecting projects that are pursuing challenging MaaS demonstration experiments to support them
・ Data health: (Project commissioned by Niigata Prefecture) Support for concept formulation of “the next-generation information infrastructure that helps to achieve ‘longer health spans’ and the ‘best care/support’ for residents in Niigata through cooperation among the fields of health, medicine and nursing care”

By supporting local governments and related companies engaged in the smart city initiatives with a combination of the methodologies of DTC and advanced AI technologies of ExaWizards, we will further contribute to improvement of quality of life of people, establishment of the system for more prosperous life, and resolution of social issues.
