Automatic Photo Service “Torinku” Image Recognition AI Technology Selected as a Demonstration Project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Efficient Reviews and Quality Improvements for Educational Policies through the Use of AI and Data
―This has been adopted as a demonstration project in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.

ExaWizards Inc. is proud to announce that the image recognition AI technology of its subsidiary, VisionWiz Inc. (Headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, with Representative Director Shinichi Ikeji; hereafter, “VisionWiz”), and their automatic photo service “Torinku” has been adopted as a demonstration project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). This demonstration project, which will address critical issues in primary and secondary education through the use of cutting-edge technology and educational data, will commence in July 2023 in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture.

☑︎ Utilizing the latest motion analysis and facial expression analysis models allows for accurate and objective policy evaluations based on data.
It is crucial to accurately evaluate effectiveness and make continuous improvements to create a suitable learning environment and improve education initiatives. Conventional methods such as surveys, interviews, and on-site observation typically require several years from implementation to evaluation, posing challenges to efficiency and validation.

This demonstration project will utilize the knowledge accumulated by the “Torinku Education Research Institute” in collaboration with local governments and research institutions. VisionWiz operates this project to promote the use of AI in the field of education.

Utilizing an AI with inference capabilities that specialize in recognizing situations and behaviors in educational settings makes it possible to evaluate based on objective data rather than traditional human observation and recording methods. This allows educators to use AI, from verification to improvement, to streamline and tailor the process.

☑︎ Kaga City demonstration project: Using image recognition AI to optimize the relationship between teacher training and the progress of children’s learning.
Kaga City is collaborating with Fukui University and other organizations to shift away from uniform instruction to a child-centered teaching style. This project will use cameras and AI to capture and analyze teachers’ and children’s behaviors during class, evaluate the changes in teaching style and children’s learning, and measure the efficacy of teacher training. Using AI to analyze changes in children’s class participation, concentration, learning methods, and communication between teachers and children makes it is possible to improve the cycle of instruction in educational settings in a more sophisticated and efficient manner.

☑︎ Minoh City demonstration project: Developing an AI model to determine characteristic behaviors of children enrolled in support classes.
In Minoh City, cameras and AI will be used to analyze the behavior of children in support classes. The AI model will collaborate with special support education experts to judge children’s daily activities and behaviors. This will provide educational support tailored to each child’s situation and improve support measures in a more sophisticated and efficient manner.

ExaWizards will fully adhere to its Information Security Policy and Personal Information Protection Policy to ensure the security and privacy of participants during the Kaga City and Minoh City demonstration projects.

ExaWizards and VisionWiz are committed to improving the quality of education and creating a suitable learning environment through image recognition AI technology. They also aim to enhance the efficiency and sophistication of educational administration throughout Japan in collaboration with other municipalities.

☑︎ Kenichi Ikuta, Director of Torinku Education Research Institute
These two initiatives will solve problems in each field and demonstrate the power, effectiveness, and comprehensive potential of deep and active learning via individualized and collaborative learning through data and AI.”

☑︎ About the automatic photo service “Torinku” <https://tlnk.jp/>
The automatic photo service “Torinku” allows you to automatically capture, organize (select good photos/adjust children’s positions/image correction), and distribute the natural daily life of children in places such as nurseries. With the “Torinku Camera App” installed on a smartphone, you can take no-look photos that automatically detect a child’s expressions, even at a low angle (Patent Pending 2022-198434), which will strike a balance between busy childcare work and photography.
