ExaWizards Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & CEO: Makoto Haruta; hereinafter “ExaWizards”) has begun initiatives aimed at deploying AI Agents in manufacturing and infrastructure settings through “Physical AI,” and as a first step, the Company has commenced joint development of multiple AI Agents operating on production floors with Sumitomo Wiring Systems Ltd. (Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture; Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer: Kenichi Urushibata; hereinafter “Sumitomo Wiring Systems”). By combining AI Agents with hardware such as cameras and sensors, the Company aims to realize multiple coordinated AI Agents: Audit AI to detect production anomalies, Intervention AI to prompt timely intervention to production leaders, and Review AI to learn and accumulate skilled techniques through dialogue with experienced workers and leaders. As the first phase, development of these multiple AI Agents has begun. The Company will conduct proof-of-concept testing at overseas facilities during the current fiscal year and target full global rollout in the next fiscal year.

☑︎ Background: Societal Challenges of Labor Shortage and Skill Succession, and Expectations for Physical AI

Manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure industries face critical challenges: loss of tacit knowledge due to retirement of skilled technicians, chronic labor shortages, and inconsistent skill levels across overseas facilities. Meanwhile, while generative AI adoption has advanced primarily in office operations, its application to physical work environments remains in early stages. To address these challenges, “Physical AI”—where AI perceives and judges the physical world and collaborates with on-site personnel, robots, and equipment—is gaining global momentum. In Japan, government designation of Physical AI as a strategic sector and development of implementation roadmaps have accelerated public-private initiatives.

Sumitomo Wiring Systems, in pursuit of its “Sumitomo Wiring Systems Group 2030VISION (30V),” established its “Mid-term Management Plan 2028 (28M)” in 2026, positioning AI adoption to realize its “smart factory” concept and enhance judgment and speed across all operations. Under this concept, the Company aims to combine “Physical AI robots” (Next-generation robots equipped with the latest AI capabilities that work flexibly alongside humans, rather than being conventional, monotonous machines) and “AI Agents” (A system that learns know-how on site and autonomously determines and issues instructions for optimal production plans and anomaly prediction) to achieve an “autonomously control factory combining fully unmanned production lines with collaborative lines where humans and robots work together.” The Company has designated 2025–2026 as the “foundation establishment and production site validation” phase.

Since its founding, ExaWizards has pursued its mission of “Solving social issues through Artificial Intelligence for future generations,” conducting field-rooted AI development through transactions with over 2,500^* companies. Sumitomo Wiring Systems is pursuing autonomous control factories that combine unmanned and collaborative lines through “multi-AI Agents”—specialized AI Agents for demand forecasting, workforce allocation, and logistics delay prediction that consult and coordinate (orchestration) with one another to deliver optimal directives.

Both companies recognized that converting tacit knowledge from Sumitomo Wiring Systems’ production facilities into explicit knowledge using ExaWizards’ diverse AI technologies—enabling efficient, high-quality production across global production sites—advances both the “multi-AI Agent” concept and Sumitomo Wiring Systems’ smart factory vision. This recognition led to joint development of multiple AI Agents for production environments.

☑︎ Initiative with Sumitomo Wiring Systems: Development of Multiple AI Agents

ExaWizards and Sumitomo Wiring Systems have commenced development of multiple AI Agents serving as the foundation for multi-AI Agents—a core component of Sumitomo Wiring Systems’ “smart factory” concept—beginning in August 2026. This initiative is one implementation project within the ” foundation establishment and production site validation” phase (2025–2026) of Sumitomo Wiring Systems’ smart factory concept outlined in its “2030 VISION / Mid-term Management Plan 2028.”

Specifically, the companies are developing Audit AI (STEP 1: See and Inform)—which detects production pace decline and anomaly precursors in real time from production line camera footage and equipment data—and Intervention AI (STEP 1: See and Inform)—which prompts timely intervention to production leaders. The companies are also developing Review AI (STEP 2: Learn and Teach)—which learns and accumulates tacit knowledge from production floors through dialogue with skilled workers and leaders. Proof-of-concept testing on actual production lines is planned. Looking ahead, the companies plan to feed accumulated insights back into education and talent development, and to conduct global proof-of-concept testing during the current fiscal year in preparation for full global rollout in the next fiscal year, supporting Sumitomo Wiring Systems’ planned “Building a model line” in 2027–2028 and “Global rollout” by 2030.

ExaWizards will expand the application of Physical AI starting from the manufacturing and energy sectors, while strengthening collaboration with hardware manufacturers such as drone and robotics companies, inspection and surveillance service providers, universities and research institutions, and municipalities. By establishing AI developed in individual field settings as a common platform and integrating with the AI Agent development and operations platform “exaBase Studio,” the Company aims to provide “field-adaptive Physical AI” broadly to society.
