Joint development of an AI system with ExaWizards helps Softbank assess video job interviews for when screening new graduates – Enabling safe video job interviews during the COVID-19 pandemic through fair and standardized evaluation criteria –
This is to notify that, at the end of May, ExaWizards Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Ko Ishiyama; hereinafter, “ExaWizards”) introduced a jointly-developed AI system to help SoftBank Corp. (hereinafter, “Softbank”) assess video job interviews for when screening new graduates.
Utilization of AI to achieve the same level of judgment accuracy as recruiting personnel, with recruiting personnel making the final decision by checking those videos that do not meet the acceptance criteria
Many companies are now taking steps to enable online recruitment so as to prevent the spread COVID-19. Recently, ExaWizards entered into a partnership with Softbank to jointly develop an AI system to help Softbank assess video job interviews for when hiring new graduates. Using a video analysis model created by ExaWizards, which has the system learn the perspectives of veteran recruiting personnel, the AI system reads newly submitted videos and calculates an assessment to be used for reference purposes in the selection process. Tests were carried out on a joint basis to verify the degree of accuracy with which videos can be analyzed using AI. Having achieved a level of accuracy on par with regular assessments of interviews carried out by Softbank’s recruiting personnel, the decision was made to introduce the system into the employment screening process.
Softbank uses these video job interviews, which are carried out following the screening of application forms by general affairs employees, as the basis for selecting successful candidates to go on to the next stage of screening, with the AI system earmarking those applicants who meet the company’s acceptance criteria. Recruiting personnel check all those videos that do not meet the acceptance criteria, and make a final decision on whether or not the applicant passes. By having people and AI cooperate through the utilization of an AI system in the screening process, the aim is to ensure a fairer selection process with standardized evaluation criteria while ensuring the safety of candidates and employees by avoiding face-to-face contact.
What is more, the introduction of the AI system is expected to cut the amount of time Softbank spends on screening video job interviews by around 70%, allowing it to use this extra time to take new initiatives in encouraging job matching for applicants, such as by expanding the availability of work experience-type internships, or by approaching those human resources with the kinds of skills that are in demand at Softbank.
ExaWizards will utilize the achievements it has made through the development of this system to continue providing AI products which incorporate video analytics, not only supporting assessments of video job interviews but also expanding the scope for utilization into various other HR fields.
