Twenty Percent of Employees Involved in Operations Unrelated to DX Have Potential to Promote DX Visualization Services and Strategic Distribution of Personnel Lead to a Solution to Talent Shortages
— Revealed through a data analysis of 4,700 test takers: Ready to become front-line workers with short-term training DX

ExaWizards Inc., a company that develops artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled services to resolve social issues (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Ko Ishiyama; hereafter, “ExaWizards”), conducted an analysis/survey to confirm how many employees can handle duties necessary for the promotion of DX in a company, and revealed that approximately 20% of employees in a department unrelated to DX have potential to promote DX. The strategic utilization of such talent can lead to an effective solution to DX talent shortages.

ExaWizards’ “Practical AI & DX Research Center” created a report based on the analysis results of data gathered from the test takers of its DX talent assessment/visualization service “exaBase DX Assessment & Learning.” The center conducted a feature analysis of the data collected from 4,700 individuals to compare the DX-related skills and abilities of people working at DX promotion-related departments against those of their counterparts belonging to departments unrelated to DX promotion. Almost 20% (18%, to be exact) of people working in departments unrelated to DX promotion showed the potential to promote DX. Such high-potential workers were defined as “Potential DX Talent” in the survey.

Regarding the departments to which Potential DX Talent belongs, there were interesting findings. Departments such as planning and sales had more Potential DX Talent than IT-related departments including software development and IS.
Identifying such Potential DX Talent in your company, training them, and assigning them to appropriate departments going forward will be an effective method to solve the DX talent shortage problem. There is a possibility that they will improve their skills required for the promotion of DX and become front-line DX workers by receiving short-term HR development programs such as 3- to 6-month e-learning training courses.

☑︎Background Story of Survey
DX talent shortages are becoming a high-profile issue, as shown in surveys conducted by governments or private bodies. Under such circumstances, it is difficult to hire professional workers from outside Japanese companies. ExaWizards, offering DX talent assessment/visualization services, implemented this survey based on the hypothesis that many talented workers with the potential to promote DX exist in a company.

☑︎ About exaBase DX Assessment & Learning
https://exawizards.com/exabase/assess-learning/
exaBase DX Assessment & Learning is an assessment service used to visualize digital skills and capabilities as an innovator as well as knowledge and skills developed by ExaWizards based on its experience in the promotion of DX as well as research on innovators. It was launched in October 2019, and approximately 10,000 people from approximately 300 companies have conducted assessment tests to date. The test taker answers 100 to 130 questions to receive scores for the two categories of “skills” and “knowledge” in the two areas of “digital skills” and “capabilities as an innovator.” Based on the past test results, ExaWizards defined those who obtained scores exceeding a certain level for “knowledge” in “digital skills” and “capabilities as an innovator” as “Potential DX Talent.”

☑︎About Practical AI & DX Research Center
< https://aidx-lab.exawizards.com/>
Companies are trying to materially change their business models to improve/recreate customer and business value using digital and AI technologies during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, as specified in a report issued by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, it is said that we will have a 430,000-talent shortage in the promotion of DX in 2025, which may help result in annual economic losses of up to 12 trillion yen after 2025. The existing talent requirements for the realization of business strategies are changing to fit new business strategies in the DX age, which are bringing about a significant shift in the environment surrounding “working people.”
Through surveys, reports, and interviews with companies, organizations, and research institutions taking progressive approaches, Practical AI & DX Research Center would like to show how companies and working people should respond to such changes, and proactively create more changes from the standpoint of the “working people/companies” required by the DX age.
