DENSO WAVE Uses ExaWizards’ COREVERY to Develop Compliance Control, Flow Generation, and Imitative Motion Learning Based on Multimodal AI Technology Release of Robots Scheduled for July 2020
~To be exhibited at DENSO WAVE’s booth during the International Robot Exhibition 2019 to be held at the Tokyo Big Sight~
ExaWizards Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Ko Ishiyama; hereinafter, “ExaWizards”) and DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED (Head Office: Agui-cho, Chita-gun, Aichi-ken; President & CEO: Hiroyasu Nakagawa; hereinafter, “DENSO WAVE”) worked together to develop compliance control, flow generation, and imitative motion learning based on multimodal AI technology utilizing COREVERY provided by the former as they strove to make up for lack of programming skills and robotize difficult-to-verbalize work in the robot programming environment. They plan to start releasing three industrial robot products with these software programs installed therein in July 2020.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry predicts that in 2030, the country will be short of some 790,000 IT engineers(i). Going forward, it will be indispensable not to provide high-level programming technology only to engineers who need it but to develop simpler, easier-to-handle industrial robots and programs to operate them.
COREVERY enables robots to perform human work without complicated programming by building AI models using sensor information obtained from their arms and hands as learning data. DENSO WAVE, jointly with ExaWizards, will provide robotic functions that meet diversifying customer needs utilizing the strengths of COREVERY to the maximum extent. It will also contribute to allowing robots to be used effectively not only in factories but also in other various fields as well as enhancing the value of customers’ business.
The three products—compliance control, flow generation, and imitative motion learning—will be exhibited at DENSO WAVE’s booth during the International Robot Exhibition 2019, which will take place at the Tokyo Big Sight from Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
- Compliance control
The sensor-based compliance control used for assembly work by robots required knowledge and experience to set parameters for force sensors. This compliance control, however, finds optimal parameter setting for force sensors by selecting target motions (currently two types of motions: peg and gear assembly) and repeating such motions from the starting to objective points.
- Flow generation
This product lets AI construct flow control (branch instruction), which makes robot programs complicated. Users create only simple motion programs and learn the execution conditions of those programs with a simple HMI(ii), so that AI can determine the situation and guide the correct procedure.
- Imitative motion learning
AI learns motions unique to humans which cannot be verbalized and lets robot arms imitate them. In the weighing of powder, for example, imitative motion learning lets AI learn the trajectory of robot arm motions at the same time as several sensors, including imagery, in order to derive the trajectory of motions required for constant volume work.
